1:40….
My usual routine goes like this…
Wake up at 2.45am study for couple of hours catch 6.27 train in the morning and travel 40 mins to work study all thro’ the 40mins journey and then leave work at 3.30pm after 40 mins travel back to home pick up my son from the day care at exactly 5.00pm take care of dinner menu and then will go to bed around 8.30pm.
One day as I was coming back home I was not in a mood to study just lost in my own little world watching out thro’ the window counting down the stations…huh…5 down and 6 more to go….
At one station an Indian women got into the train and sat next to me; we exchanged friendly smiles, I am really not good and comfortable in starting a conversation with strangers but ones started its hard for me to stop!! So people beware…. After couple of minutes she started a conversation, the normal stuffs like my name, work, family so on and so forth….Then slowly I started asking the questions back and came to know that she is a student studying hospitality course in some not so familiar uni somewhere in a remote place and she is working as a kitchen hand in an Indian restaurant, at one point her eyes filled with tears as she was telling me about her details….She was working as a teacher in India and said that everything is lost now and is very hard to survive here in Sydney and that her husband is not working and not getting much support from his end…poor lady I felt so bad by seeing tears in her eyes. Out of curiosity I asked her why she choose to come to Australia she said 1:40, I was bit puzzled and asked what she meant by that…she simply said 1 AU$ is 40 Indian rupees…I felt really weird …and asked she just came here simply for that reason and she quite frankly told me yeah… and entry to the country was easier as a student as she was telling this her stop came and she left. All my way home I was wondering what in the world was she thinking when she decided to come to AU just based on the exchange rates….Wishing to have a better life is not wrong but proper investigation makes it worth while. I truly hope and pray that she is managing her way out.
